Recognize the types and extent of information required for your research assignment

There are many kinds of information available through the library. To be an effective researcher you must not only be aware of them, but know when and how to use them.

Questions to ask yourself as you begin the research process:

Is my research topic local or global?

Do I just need an overview of my topic, and/or basic facts or statistics?

Do I need scholarly resources?

Do I need multiple perspectives on my topic?

Does my topic require the most current information available, or does it require information that has been written over a long period of time?
